Our EcoPro Garage Insulation Kit will enable you to optimise this space. The Kit has been designed by insulation experts, specifically for Garages, using high-performing insulation material.  The insulation acts as a vapour control barrier and is designed to prevent moisture from building up, whilst retaining an ambient temperature all year round.

What does the EcoPro Garage Insulation Kit include?

This product prevents cold air from entering from below the floor. EcoTec Floor Foam can be installed directly onto the concrete floor with Thermaseal Double Sided, or you can also use a non-solvent adhesive.

How To Convert Your Garage Into a Workshop
1. Clear Garage of All Materials

Clear the Garage of all materials, including any debris and dirt.

2. Walls: Install Battens

Fix a minimum of 25mm battens to the wall. We recommend screwing these vertically and spacing the battens at minimum centres of 400mm

3. Walls: Staple Insulation

Staple the EcoQuilt Expert to the internal of the battens, creating an air cavity between the wall and insulation. We recommend stapling at intervals of 300mm of less and overlapping the insulation by 50mm.

4. Walls: Tape and Seal

Tape and seal the EcoQuilt Expert using the ThermaSeal Foil Tape (provided in the Insulation Kit) along the perimeter, overlaps and along any cuttings/holes made in the product. This will ensure the Insulation will act as a high performing vapour control layer, eliminating the risk of condensation.

5. Walls: Install Second Battens

Install secondary 25mm battens over the insulation. We recommend fixing these at minimum centres of 400mm and can be installed vertically or horizontally.

6. Walls: Install internal boarding

Fix your chosen internal boarding to the secondary battens. We have used Plywood however Plasterboard or cladding can also be used. You will have created a cavity either side of the insulation, so the foils can perform and reflect properly.

7. Repeat Steps on the roof

Staple the multifoil insulation directly to the underside of the roofs timber rafters or joists before taping and sealing using ThermaSeal Foil Tape. A secondary counter batten and internal boarding can then be applied, however the insulation can be left exposed if preferred.

8. Floor: Lay FloorFoam

Lay the EcoTec FloorFoam directly onto the wooden or concrete floor and adhere into place using either a non-solvent adhesive, Double SIded Tape or Staple Gun. We recommend butt joining the insulation and not overlapping, as this will ensure the floor is level.

9. Floor: Taping and Sealing

Tape and seal the EcoTec FloorFoam using ThermaSeal Foiil Tape. We recommend to tape along all butt joints, perimeter and along any pipework or cuttings to create a complete seal. This will ensure the product acts as a damp proof membrane, eliminating the risk of condensation forming.

10. Floor: Laying flooring

Finally you can now lay your internal garage flooring. As this garage is being converted into a workshop we have used rubber floor tiles, which are very easy to install.

Question and Answer
Do I need to insulate the floor?

Performance wise it is recommended to insulate the floor using our EcoTec FloorFoam which is also available in this kit. If you’re using your garage for cars, or heavy machinery and it gets a lot of wear and tear you should use some plywood over the top to prevent damage to the insulation. There is also the option to not insulate the floors if you don’t feel like it’s needed.

Do you need to board over the floor and walls?

This is something that’s completely up to you if you’re wanting to insulate your garage so it can be used as an extra room, and you don’t want to see the silver insulation you can. Boarding over the insulation can help to protect it from any damage. For the floors, dense rubber matting is a great choice because it’s made for heavy machinery and can take a lot of weight. However, you do not need to board over the insulation.

Do you need to use battens, or can you install the insulation directly to the wall?

The insulation works by expanding into the open space behind the battens and trapping warm air inside. You will still gain benefit from applying it straight to the wall, but the performance won’t be as good as installing it with battens with a 25mm gap. You would expect to lose 20% performance from removing an air cavity.

Do you need to Tape and Seal the insulation?

Yes, we would always recommend taping and sealing the insulation this will stop any draughts from entering the garage and prevent warm air from escaping. When our products are taped, they will work as Vapour Control Layers, reducing condensation.

Is it suitable for all year-round use?

Insulating the roof and wall would be suitable for all year-round use. Having a heat source in the garage would allow for comfortable use in the winter.

Can I cut the insulation?

Our products can easily be cut with a cutting knife or a large pair of scissors. EcoQuilt Expert is a multi-layered insulation, however it has kimbles which keeps all layers together when cutting.
